The meeting took place at the Manisa Provincial Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate in the city of Manisa, from April 11 to February 15, 2024. This initial project meeting focused primarily on introducing all project partners and establishing the next steps for the successful implementation of the project.
Each of the participating organizations — Associação Inspira! – Intervenção Juvenil e Ambiental (Portugal), European Initiative for Youth Empowerment, Mindfulness, and Wellbeing “GO Alive” (Greece), and Extramus – Experience Travel Erasmus APS (Italy) — had four professional and highly competent representatives in attendance. These representatives actively engaged in all important discussions and activities.
A vital component of the meeting was the socialization aspect, which is essential for fostering successful international cooperation. Building strong relationships between the partners is crucial for ensuring smooth collaboration throughout the project.
We observe that in many parts of the world, including our country, women are underrepresented in policy-making and decision-making processes related to disaster risk reduction. The disadvantaged conditions women experience due to their gender before a disaster often lead to their categorization as a vulnerable group after a disaster, increasing the responsibility of AFAD and local authorities.
At this stage, we are developing an 18-month roadmap to provide effective, efficient, and comprehensive support to women in challenging situations resulting from disasters and emergencies. Through Event 1, we aim to bring together our partners and direct target audience, raising awareness about the issues and objectives of the project.
