The Second Transnational Meeting of the Project – Kozani, Greece
The second transnational meeting of our project took place from June 12 to June 17, 2024, in Kozani, Greece. In this activity, 36 participants, including staff from NGOs and women’s associations in the host country, received Disaster Awareness Training.
It is a known fact that life becomes socially and psychologically difficult after a disaster, especially for people living in temporary shelters who have lost their homes. Issues such as safety, inadequate living conditions, and poor hygiene in these shelters are prevalent. Additionally, in temporary shelters, the fact that all healthcare personnel are male causes women to hesitate to seek medical attention, leading to worsening health problems. Moreover, it has been observed that some women continue to stay in damaged buildings due to fears of living alone in tents. Women, who must manage daily household chores under inadequate and difficult conditions in tent cities, face increasing challenges based on their economic status, health, and age. After a disaster, when men leave home for economic reasons, the safety concerns of women left alone with their children also increase. Therefore, the involvement of women in disaster risk management and response planning becomes even more crucial.
During this activity, three trainings were provided on the topics of Psychosocial Support and Humanitarian Aid, Fire Awareness, and Disaster Awareness Training. The partners will disseminate the knowledge gained from this training in their respective local areas, contributing to the achievement of the project’s goals and the dissemination of its outcomes.
The cultural tour of the event included visits to Mount Olympus and the Katerini Beach. At the end of the activity, all participants received the International Disaster Awareness Train-the-Trainer Activity End-of-Activity Evaluation Report, and they were asked to evaluate the activity day by day and share the insights they gained from this mobility event. After the training, all participants were awarded Certificates of Participation, and Youthpass Certificates were presented to 16 participants by the host organization.
